Nebraska football has felt like the leader when it comes to four-star, in-state recruit Chase Loftin. Yet, we’ll find out over the next month or so if the Huskers can hold that lead.
Loftin, a four-star tight end out of Millard South in Omaha, is 6-foot-6, 215 pounds, and ranked No. 367 overall among 2025 recruits according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Loftin is also the second-ranked player in the state of Nebraska.
He’s a top priority for the Huskers and they have recruited him like one. Loftin has taken eight visits to Nebraska football and will also take an official visit next month, along with visits to three other programs according to Steve Wiltfong of On3.com.
In addition to Nebraska football, Loftin will also visit Missouri. That will be his first visit this weekend. He will also visit Florida State (June 7) and Texas A&M (June 14) before taking his trip to Nebraska.
That June 21 weekend is shaping up to be a big one for the Huskers. My guess is that they’ll try to get Christian Jones on campus for an official visit that same weekend. Nebraska closed it out with key in-state recruits that way in 2023 and maybe it can work again.
Are the Huskers still the favorite for Chase Loftin?
If these are the final four teams, Nebraska fans should feel confident. Florida State is a big-time program and Missouri is no slouch either. The Tigers also have some stellar NIL funds to work with and are fresh off a win in the Cotton Bowl.
I wouldn’t sleep on Texas A&M either. Are three schools are threats to land Loftin, but after his visits this spring, it felt like Nebraska was able to take the lead.
Just imagine Loftin and Carter Nelson as a future tight-end duo. That creates a great situation for Loftin too. He can learn and develop early on in his career. The On3 prediciton machine gives the Huskers a 40-percent chance to land his commitment. Missouri is next on the list at 13 percent.
Things can change quickly with the official visits and there is a long way to go, but as of right now, I’d still give the edge to Matt Rhule and Nebraska.
