Nebraska football will host former North Dakota State running back CharMar Brown on Thursday for a visit, following his trip to Miami, and ahead of visits to Cal and Kansas State.
All of these teams seem to have a shot, however, Miami feels like the biggest threat to Nebraska in this recruitment. The Huskers’ level of interest in Brown, a former Creighton Prep standout who wasn’t recruited by the Huskers in the 2023 class, has been debatable.
It’s hard to know if there are any hard feelings on Brown’s side of things about not being recruited by Nebraska. But after rushing for just under 1,200 yards last season for the FCS national champions, Brown would be a great fit behind Emmett Johnson.
Matt Rhule will give him the chance to compete, just like he does every player, but outside of the money guarantees, he will have to earn his way onto the field. That shouldn’t be an issue for the 5-foot-11, 218-pound back. He should fit perfectly in the Big Ten.
He’s a different kind of back. Brown is a bruiser, which would be nice to pair with Johnson, who is a dynamic runner/receiver. Miami has deep pockets, though. I doubt money will be the only factor in this decision, despite what fans think.
Yet, Nebraska football needs to be in the ballpark. If the Huskers are willing to do that, I wouldn’t rule them out.
Nebraska football is a finalist for two elite recruits
Kelvin Obot, a 6-foot-5 offensive tackle from Idaho, released his top five earlier this week, and it included Nebraska football. Michigan, USC, Utah, and Oregon are the other contenders.
Obot is ranked in the top 100 overall according to the On3 Industry rankings. He’s visited Nebraska twice. Getting him back on campus for a visit this summer could be the key to closing.
Yet, the Huskers seem to be in a strong position, and it would be good to see them close with an elite offensive tackle. Nebraka football also made the top five for four-star running back Brian Bonner (No. 103 overall) from Valencia, California, this week.
Notre Dame picked up a crystal ball a couple of weeks ago. However, he will take an official visit to Nebraska football, so there is still time to turn things around.
