Fall camp will be here before we know it for Nebraska football. The season is 49 days away, and it feels like it will be here before we know it.

There are plenty of storylines to follow when camp starts for the Huskers. There is the quarterback battle, the running back depth chart, and the new defense.

The Huskers will have a new starting quarterback and a new defensive coordinator. That’s the reason many fans are more optimistic about this season, although some have already lost faith in head coach Matt Rhule.

Hype has been a little more subdued. Yet, you can feel more people drinking the Kool-Aid. It tends to happen as the season gets closer. Matt Rhule said this was his best team.

I believe him, and here are three players who are flying under the radar heading into fall camp.

These aren’t necessarily the biggest stars on the team, or players who have never seen the field. Just three players who haven’t generated as much hype this offseason, but could have big roles to play for Nebraska football in 2026.

Bryson Webber (Sophomore Cornerback)

The 6-foot-3 cornerback only played in two games last season. However, there should be a path to playing time for the uber-talented defensive back who is 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He also runs the 100-meter dash in 10.5.

That’s the kind of athlete you need on the perimeter to compete against teams like Ohio State, Oregon, and Indiana, who are all on the schedule this season.

Webber has some work to do to move up the depth chart. Andrew Marshall is the No. 1 cornerback. Donovan Jones, Jamir Conn, and Dwayne McDougle are also slated to start in the secondary. Jeremiah Charles and Danny Odem could be in the mix to start at the other cornerback spot, but Nebraska fans should keep an eye on Webber this fall.

Cortez Mills (Sophomore wide receiver)

Mills played in all 13 games for Nebraska football last season, catching nine passes for 147 yards. The former top-100 recruit is another speedster. The 6-foot, 185-pounder is another with sub-11 speed. He had three catches for 98 yards against Houston Christian, which included a 62-yard touchdown.

Mills will need to grow as a player. The wide receiver room is deep with Jacory Barney, Kwazi Gilmer, Nyziah Hunter, Mills, Quinn Clark, and others. However, it feels like there is an outside chance that Mills could turn into the Huskers’ home-run hitter this season.

That was the role Rhule had when the Huskers landed his commitment. It didn’t quite happen last season, and despite less buzz this offseason, Mills is poised for a jump in production.

Willis McGahee IV (Junior EDGE)

Mills and Webber are each rising sophomores. The biggest improvement is usually made between the first and second seasons. For Willis McGahee IV, the biggest leap might come from a defensive scheme that suits what he can do.

After playing the JACK in the 3-3-5 the past two seasons, with limited success, McGahee moved to EDGE in the 4-2-5, which should highlight what he does well: rush the passer.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pounder played 12 games as a freshman in 2024, followed by five last season. He has one career sack, but in 2026, it feels like he will finally have the chance to put his best foot forward in Lincoln.

Nebraska needs to affect the quarterback. McGahee can help with that, or he will at least get the chance to prove he can this fall.
