Nebraska football is nearly at the midway point of fall camp. There are two weeks left; then, essentially, the first game of the week of the season starts two weeks from today.

Nebraska and Ohio will take the field at Lincoln Memorial Stadium in 19 days. It’s hard to believe that it’s close, but it also feels far away.

Matt Rhule said once again to the Big Ten Network crew this weekend that the Huskers have the best team they have had since he became the head coach. Here are more takeaways from the first two weeks of fall camp, following the 120-snap scrimmage on Saturday.

The competition at running back and cornerback is as heated as ever. That’s one quick takeaway from the midway point. Soon enough, we can watch football instead of just talking about it.

Nebraska volleyball scrimmage takeaways

The Red Team defeated the White Team in the Nebraska volleyball scrimmage on Sunday, notching a 27-25, 25-21, 25-19, 18-25 victory.

Nebraska struggled to hit the ball. The Red Team hit .121, while the White Team hit .024. Bergen Reilly was the setter for the Red Team. Looking back, here are three takeaways, with the volleyball season right around the corner.

Defense shined

Bergen Reilly admitted after the match that after two weeks of camp, it’s hard for the Huskers to score the ball against each other. Their defense is stellar. Laney Choboy and Olivia Mauch combined for 30 digs.

When this Nebraska program is at its best, the defense is nearly impossible to score on, at least that’s how it feels. That’s how you win championships, and it’s a good sign for the preseason.

Manaia Ogbechie dominated 

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker played in 27 sets last season, and with an opening at middle blocker, she looked the part on Sunday. Beyond the littles, she was one of the reasons for the poor hitting percentage. The sophomore finished with 13 blocks, including four in a row at one point.

Ogbechie made a strong case to fill the role as the top middle blocker on the team alongside Andi Jackson. There are others in the mix, too, but she also hit over .500 last season.

Jayden Robinson is a freshman to watch 

The outside hitter has seven kills, five blocks, and five digs, as well as an ace in her debut. She also hit .222. Skyler Pierce and Ryan Hunter should also factor into the mix at outside hitter, but Robinson, a freshman, also looks capable of contributing this season for Dani Busboom Kelly. DBK said she was the Huskers’ best pin blocker, too.
