Husker Big Red: Nebraska changes offense for Anthony Colandrea, plus elite DL on radar

One of the biggest differences between this Nebraska football team and the past three under Matt Rhule is that Anthony Colandrea will be the first true dual-threat.

Heinrich Haarberg was a better runner than thrower. Dylan Raiola could throw, but offered next to nothing as a runner. He had poor pocket presence, too.

Colandrea has issues with turnovers. That’s fair. But he has a great feel for the pocket, and when things break down, he isn’t a statue. He’s capable of making things happen, which is why he won the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year award.

Speaking on Nebraska Sports Nightly, the expected starting quarterback for the Huskers this season explained how Dana Holgorsen has adapted the Nebraska football offense to use some of the things Colandrea did at UNLV, when he accounted for over 4,000 yards and 33 total touchdowns.

“Coach Holgorsen has done a great job of adding some stuff we did at UNLV — run and pass stuff. Husker fans should be excited to see this offense go,”Colandrea said.

Nebraska could be hosting an elite DL for a visit

Nebraska football offered four-star defensive lineman Simon Nuamah this month, who is 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, and ranked No. 64 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2028 class. Nuamah has an expanding offer list, which has grown to include Michigan, Notre Dame, and the Huskers.

Tennessee, Missouri, Maryland, and Georgia Tech have also offered recently. The Huskers could use more blue-chip talent on the defensive line. He’s out of Massachusetts, and according to Bryan Munson of Husker Online, Nebraska has the inside track to get Nuamah on campus for a visit.

MAC Preseason Poll

The Huskers will play the projected fourth-place team (Ohio) and the ninth-place team (Bowling Green). Western Michigan was predicted as the league champion. Just something to note ahead of the 2026 season, with two MAC teams during the first three games of the season.
