Nebraska football needs to be better in the trenches if it’s going to compete with the elite programs moving forward, so Wednesday’s commitment from four-star offensive lineman Jordan Agbanoma is a reason to celebrate.

Fans have been clamoring for Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule to upgrade the offensive line. It’s something he said he was going to do day one, but this offseason, he might have finally achieved it with the hire of Geep Wade.

Not only is the former Georgia Tech offensive line coach an upgrade in terms of on-field coaching, but he is also proving to be a major upgrade on the recruiting trail.

The Huskers have only landed one offensive line pledge so far in the 2027 class, at least they had until Wednesday, when Agbanoma, a top-100 prospect overall, committed to the Huskers, becoming the second O-line commitment and ninth overall (6th blue-chip).

Nebraska has four top-100 commitments in the 2027 class

Rhule and the Huskers went into Georgia’s backyard to land Agbanoma, who is 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, and ranked No. 80 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Georgia, Texas A&M, and Florida were among the top contenders for the blue-chip offensive lineman. Georgia just visited him earlier this week.

Of course, this commitment is much more about Wade than it is Rhule. Wade has been expanding the offensive line board. It made you wonder if Nebraska football was still going to grab an elite talent on the interior.

That question was answered on Wednesday. Agbanoma is the fourth top-100 commitment total for the Huskers in the 247 Sports composite rankings as he joins Trae Taylor (No. 60), Tory Pittman (No. 53) and Corey Hadley (No.96). Matthew Gregory has been projected to be the fifth. He’s a four-star wide receiver.

Wade also has Nebraska football leading with KD Jones, a center prospect who could be the next commitment on the horizon for the Huskers.

Regardless, for the Nebraska football fans who still believe in Rhule, or even the ones who are skeptical, this class is a beacon of hope, even more so after Wednesday.
