Welcome to the Big Red Rundown, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.
Nebraska football is the favorite to land elite wide receiver Matthew Gregory in the 2027 recruiting class, according to some new expert projections via the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Tim Verghese (Inside Nebraska), Bryan Munson (Husker Online) and Steve Wiltfong have each projected the 6-foot, 170-pound wideout out of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to commit to the Huskers, giving Nebraska football a 91 percent chance according to the Rivals RPM.
Gregory has an official visit scheduled for June 19th. UCLA also has a visit scheduled. Penn State is another team to watch, but Nebraska football is the clear leader for what would be Matt Rhule’s fourth top-100 commitment in the 2027 class.
Trae Taylor is “locked in”
Trae Taylor has been on the mind of Nebraska football fans ever since it was reported that Ohio State was coming after the Husker QB commitment.
Taylor isn’t just another quarterback recruit. Many people feel he is the future of Nebraska football. He seems determined to help turn things around in Lincoln, to the point he’s moving to Omaha to play for Millard South.
Those aren’t the moves of a kid who is looking to flip. Taylor told Ohio State he wasn’t going to take any visits. He also told national recruiting reporter for Rivals, Steve Wiltfong, that he’s “locked in.”
“I’m a Cornhusker.”
When Taylor said he wasn’t burning bridges because of how crazy college football is, it felt like he was saying if something were to happen with Matt Rhule, he would look around.
Nebraska football fans can believe this or not, but my firm, firm belief is that as long as Matt Rhule is the head coach, Trae Taylor will be N.
Nebraska baseball moves closer to hosting regional with Creighton sweep
A stellar season for the Nebraska baseball team continued on Tuesday night, wrapping up a three-game season sweep of Creighton with an 8-4 win in Omaha.
After the Huskers were swept by Ohio State, Nebraska responded with a sweep of Iowa last weekend, finishing the regular season with a 15-0 record at home in Big Ten play. That moved Nebraska baseball to No. 15 in the RPI, which should put them right on the cusp of hosting a regional.
Beating Creighton was essential. Drew Grego, a true freshman, delivered three doubles, tying a single-game record, and three RBI to lead the Huskers to the win. Mac Moyer also drove in two runs for the Huskers. Cooper Katsee, who didn’t start over the weekend, pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits for his sixth win of the season.
24th-ranked Nebraska is 38-14 on the season, with a three-game series on the road against Minnesota left. If Nebraska can win that series and make a run to the title game in the Big Ten tournament, hosting a regional seems like a lock.
