One of the top targets for Nebraska football in the 2027 class, Barrett Kitrell, could be difficult to keep home in the state of Nebraska.

At one time, it felt like a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Barrett Kitrell was only a matter of time for the Nebraska football program.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound offensive tackle was a frequent visitor to Lincoln. According to his Rivals profile, Kitrell has visited Nebraska football four times since September, with a visit in February, and two more during March.

Kitrell has been projected to land with the Huskers. After receiving some expert predictions, the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Nebraska football a 98 percent chance to land the in-state prospect ranked 1,158 overall in the 2027 recruiting class and ninth in the state of Nebraska.

Nebraska football is batting for in-state recruit

New offensive line coach Geep Wade offered back in January. Wade is expected to visit Kitrell during the spring evaluation period. However, this recruitment, which was more regional, with Iowa, Iowa State, and Minnesota being the other contenders, is going national.

It hasn’t generated a ton of buzz, but Kirtell visited Iowa in April. He also took an unofficial visit to Ohio State, which was eye-opening. The Buckeyes don’t mess around on the recruiting trail. If you are on their radar, that says something.

Ohio State isn’t alone in its interest either. Tennessee just extended an offer to Kitrell on Tuesday night, in another sign that this recruitment is starting to blow up. A spring decision was once on the table, but it now feels like that won’t happen. It also feels like Nebraska is fading a little in this recruitment.

It will be important for Wade to get out and visit Kitrell. The Huskers need to make him a top priority because if they don’t, he could easily end up leaving the state.
