Even though the Huskers are off to a great start in the 2027 recruiting class, the Nebraska football program is hard at work on the recruiting trail, which hasn’t changed even with the dead period in place.

New offensive line coach Geep Wade has been particularly impressive. The Huskers are viewed as the early favorite to land four-star offensive tackle Timi Aliu. The Huskers also just made the top five for four-star offensive lineman Kyler Kuhn.

Now, Rivals is reporting that Nebraska football is back in the mix for five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. Wade has made some headway and in an interview over the weekend, Matthews said Nebraska was the new team among his top group.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder out of Florida is the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2027 class via the Rivals Industry Rankings, and the No. 2 prospect overall.

Four-star Tavares Harrington, out of Chicago, is ranked No. 182 overall via Rivals in 2027. He’s also scheduled a visit with the Huskers via Steve Wiltfong. Alabama, Georgia, and Michigan are some others in the mix.

Three star DL Waylon Wooten is looking to make a return trip via Bryan Munson after he was in Lincoln for Junior Day. He’s 6-foot-1, 315 pounds and a three-star prospect out of Georgia.

Tim Verghese of Rivals also reports that four-star linebacker Brandon Lockley, Jr, who is ranked 8th at his position via Rivals, is also expected to visit in the spring, and an official visit this summer. Four-star safety Kennedy Green is also scheduled for an official visit.

All in all, the Huskers are laying a strong foundation in the 2027 recruiting class.

Huskers have solid opening weekend

Nebraska softball posted a 3-2 record in softball over the weekend. There was essentially a split with Washington. The Huskers defeated Washington 8-5 on Friday, before losing to them 3-2 on Sunday, in a game that Jordy Frahm pitched from start to finish.

Nebraska was defeated 15-10 by top-ranked Texas on Friday, before the Huskers got revenge in a 8-5 win on Saturday that featured four scoreless innings down the stretch by Jordy Frahm, who got the win. She also got a save for her effort against Washington in game one.

The Huskers also beat UTSA 6-3 for a 3-2 weekend. Frahm posted a 1-2 record with 20 hits allowed in 15.1 innings. She gave up seven earned runs and three home runs, but had 20 strikeouts. Her ERA was 3.20. She also hit .429 with two home runs and four RBI.

More Huskers news

The women’s basketball team lost its third straight game to Maryland on Sunday. Nebraska is now 5-8 in the Big Ten and creeping toward the bubble. All three losses during this streak have come against ranked teams, but a must-win game against Iowa looms on Monday.

Amy Williams’ squad is still searching for a quad-1 win. The Iowa game will be a great chance to get it. And while the wins haven’t come recently, Britt Prince has been incredible. She’s scoring 17.5 per game, and is shooting 55 percent from the field, 49 percent from 3, and 93 percent at the free-throw line, making her one of seven 50/40/90 players in women’s college basketball.

Nebraska’s wrestling team also bounced back from two ranked losses in a row with a domination of Northwestern, 47-0 on Sunday. The Huskers won all 10 matches, with six bonus-point victories.
