Nebraska football has an official visit with a talented 2025 defensive back, plus more Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

Things are starting to pick in the 2025 recruiting cycle for Nebraska football and on Wednesday, we found out about one recruit in the 2025 class who will take an official visit to Lincoln over the summer.

That’s three-star defensive back Aiden Manutai. He’s 6-foot, 170 pounds, and is ranked 528th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also the top-ranked player in the state of Hawaii.

Nebraska football grabbed Preston Taumua from the state of Hawaii last season and it looks like the Huskers are going back to the well for one of the best athletes in the state. Manutai is a versatile defensive back who shows great instincts in tackling. However, he also plays some cornerback, which is something I like in a safety.

Those guys have to be able to cover one-on-one and I like what I saw from Manutai. He would fit well in the 3-3-5 system and he’s a dude that would bring that enforcement aspect to the secondary. That’s something you need and the Huskers are in a three-team race for his commitment.

Manutai will take his official visit to Nebraska football on June 14. He’s also visiting Penn State (June 7) and Washington (June 21), so this is an old-fashioned Big Ten recruiting battle. Here’s what he told 247 Sports about his recruitment:

“With Penn State, coach Terry Smith and the rest of the defensive staff are consistent with sending DBs to the league,” Manutai said. “Along with that they have crazy history which is something I might want to be a part of. At Nebraska, it’s coach Matt Rhule that stands out. Despite the losing season, I loved the defensive side of the ball and it’s definitely somewhere I see myself playing at especially when we run a similar 3-3-5 defense at Kahuku. And then with Washington coach Jedd Fisch and coach Josh Omura have been loyal to me since my freshman year. I love what they did at Arizona and I’m extremely excited to see what they can do this year at Washington.”

Corey Collier is no longer with Nebraska Cornhuskers

A few players were missing when Nebraska football updated its roster recently, but another name has been removed as defensive back Corey Collier is no longer part of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.

Collier was a four-star recruit out of high school and signed with the Florida Gators. He transferred to Nebraska last offseason but played in just five games and became an afterthought in the secondary.

We don’t know if he entered the transfer portal or isn’t on the roster for another reason, but he won’t be a Nebraska football player in 2024.

Nebraska women’s basketball drubbed by Ohio State

The Nebraska Cornhuskers notched their biggest win of the season on Sunday against Iowa but fell back to Earth on Wednesday night thanks to an 80-47 loss to second-ranked Ohio State (on the road).

Nebraska was a heavy underdog. The Buckeyes have been dominant this season and could wind up winning the Big Ten championship, thanks in part to the Huskers upset of Iowa.

But the Huskers, who are projected as a No. 8 seed in the latest bracketology, fell behind 14-7 after the first quarter but a 29-point third quarter turned the game into a blowout.

Nebraska got nine points and 16 boards from Alexis Markowski. Jaz Shelly, who was the National Player of the Week last week, finished with six. The Huskers (17-9) will be back on the road Saturday against Purdue.
