There are few stadiums in college football more iconic than Lincoln Memorial Stadium, which is where the Nebraska football team has been playing its home games since 1923.
This season, Nebraska football is expected to hit 400 consecutive sellouts at Memorial Stadium, which also features Tom Osborne Field and the Sea of Red.
It’s truly a magical place. Some of the luster might have been knocked off by the on-field struggles over the last decade or so, but at one time, beating Nebraska football in Lincoln was one of the most difficult things to do in all of college football.
Hopefully, we get back there at some point. One big change is coming too, with Nebraska football expected to install grass at Lincoln Memorial Stadium ahead of the 2026 season. But in terms of where it ranks among the best stadiums in college football?
Where Memorial Stadium is ranked among CFB’s best
According to ESPN and a list put together by Adam Rittenberg and others, it’s the 16th-best college football stadium, and here’s what Dave Wilson of ESPN wrote for the explanation:
“Memorial Stadium will hit its record 400th straight sellout this season, setting a standard for the legendary Midwest Nice Huskers fans. Mack Brown celebrated them his first year at Texas when the unranked Longhorns went to Lincoln and ended Nebraska’s 47-game home winning streak. Instead of pelting Texas running back Ricky Williams with insults as a result of the disappointment, they gave him a standing ovation and chanted “Heisman! Heisman!” On my only trip there as a fan, the Huskers crushed the visitors, and a fan in the end zone nosebleeds tapped me on the shoulder and gently asked, “Excuse me, but don’t they have any other quarterbacks?” then went on to praise the visiting band. Not your standard-issue trash talk.”
LSU’s Tiger Stadium is No. 1 on the list. The Rose Bowl is No. 2 followed by Michigan Stadium and Notre Dame’s stadium. Camp Randall, the Horseshoe, Beaver Stadium (Penn State), and Husky Stadium (Washington) were the other Big Ten teams with stadiums ranked in the top 10.
