The transfer portal might have closed on Dec. 28, and teams that played in bowl games have another five-day window to deal with. Nebraska football fans became familiar with that on Monday, if they didn’t already know because the Huskers lost Jaylen Lloyd to the transfer portal.
Lloyd, a sophomore wide receiver and talented track and field athlete, caught six passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman. The Omaha native also had all three of his touchdowns covered at least 58 yards.
It seemed like he would be in line for a bigger role with Dylan Raiola playing quarterback. However, it never materialized. Lloyd caught 12 passes for 248 yards but didn’t play much in the Pinstripe Bowl, and with two transfers coming in, the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder is probably looking for a friendlier depth chart.
He does have two seasons with at least 237 yards for a Big Ten program and he’s lightning fast, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s plenty of interest.
No. 1 recruit Jackson Cantwell talks about Nebraska football
Nebraska football is one of the teams in the mix for five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell. The 6-foot-7, 300-pounder is ranked No. 1 overall according to 247 Sports in the 2026 class and No. 3 according to the composite rankings. The Nixa, Missouri prospect visited Michigan and Ohio State recently. He’s also taken a few trips to Nebraska and here’s what he said to reporters about the Huskers on Monday (via On3).
“Nebraska played a pretty fantastic game whenever I watched them there. They’re back to being an up and coming program. It sounds weird, they were a blue blood for a while and now they’re kind of coming back up again. First bowl game win since 2015. They’re telling me right now they think they’ll be able to win even more games next year so I’m excited to see how those guys will keep developing that program. It’s obviously really promising. Once you get a quarterback it helps a lot. They got the quarterback. They’re trying to get a supporting cast around him. I’m glad to see they’re investing a lot in those guys. Obviously they’re in need of offensive linemen. They said that is something I could be a big piece for them in the 2026 class. So I’m excited to see how that’s developing.”
Cantwell has visited Nebraska four times. Missouri holds the lead with five and the Tigers are another team expected to be in the recruitment until the end. The five-star said he might be narrowing his list soon and it feels like the Huskers have a good shot to make the cut.
