It was a busy weekend for Nebraska football pertaining to the transfer portal as Nebraska football landed commitments on three consecutive days.
Former four-star quarterback Marcos Davila got it started on Friday with his commitment. The former Purdue quarterback ranked higher than Daniel Kaelin in the 2023 class, and also in the transfer portal rankings according to 247 Sports, so it seems like Nebraska traded one promising young QB for another.
Kaelin didn’t want to sit behind Dylan Raiola. That’s understandable. Davila might not either, but if he sticks around, he has two years to win the starting job over TJ Lateef. Until then, the hope is that Davila can be the backup this season so Heinrich Haarberg can focus on playing tight end.
The Cornhuskers added another former four-star recruit to their roster on Saturday with the commitment of former Georgia defensive back Justyn Rhett. Then, Nebraska football capped the weekend by landing Dasan McCullough, a former Ohio State commitment who played three seasons for Oklahoma and Indiana.
Nebraska football has nine commitments total and three of them: McCullough, Williams Nwaneri, and Nyziah Hunter are ranking in the top 73 overall of the 2025 transfer portal rankings. It’s a good haul. The Cornhuskers aren’t finished but they are off to a strong start.

Dane Key, the Kentucky wide receiver also visited this weekend, along with former C-USA All-Conference defensive lineman Chris Murray (6-foot-4, 255). Murray was a force for Sam Houston State last season with 35 tackles (26 solo) 12 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Key and Murray could be deciding in the coming days so stay tuned. Former Idaho defensive back Andrew Marshall is also still on the board after he visited Nebraska football and Miami last week. He’s 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and was First-Team All-Big Sky in the FCS.
Nebraska basketball roundup
If you didn’t stay up to watch, the Nebraska basketball team cruised past Murray State on Sunday night. The Huskers opened up a 22-4 lead and never looked back in a 66-49 victory.
Nebraska basketball was taking part in the Diamond Head Classic. The win over Murray State was a quarterfinal game. On Monday night, Nebraska will face the host team, Hawaii (No. 158 in Kenpom) in the semifinal round (9:30 CST, ESPN2).
The Huskers have never beaten Hawaii in basketball. All of their games have been played on the Island and it will be interesting to see if Nebraska can impose its will, physically, as it did against Murray State.
Also over the weekend, the Nebraska women’s basketball team dropped a top-25 matchup with Georgia Tech. The 17th-ranked Yellow Jackets upended 23rd-ranked Nebraska 72-61. Alexis Markowski had a double-double in the road loss with 20 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-19 shooting. Britt Prince added 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Logan Nissley pitched in with 11 off the bench.
