A new report from On3.com is suggesting that Tony White will leave Nebraska football to be USC’s defensive coordinator.
Nebraska football fans breathed a sigh of relief when San Diego State didn’t hire Tony White as its head coach, but it looks like the Huskers could lose White anyway.
Despite some conflicting reports about White’s interest in USC’s job, it looks like USC has gained momentum in its quest to get White away from Nebraska.
In fact, according to a new report from Marc Kulkin, who covers USC for On3.com, Tony White will be the next defensive coordinator for the Trojans.
“Nearly a month after Alex Grich was relieved of his duties, it appears that Lincoln Riley found USC’s next defensive coordinator. At the time of this story’s publication, I learned that Tony White will be named the Trojans’ next defensive leader.”
Is Tony White leaving Nebraska football?
Until the move is announced by USC, you never know. This report might not be accurate or things could change, but it feels like USC has the kind of money to steal away White and it feels like a good opportunity.

White was barely making over $1 million with Nebraska. I’ve been saying they need to pony up and offer him a raise that puts him over $2 million.
Yet, Rhule was talking about how much it was going to cost to bring in a top-level transfer portal quarterback and it makes you feel like Nebraska football won’t be able to win a bidding war with USC for White.
White also coached for nearly a decade at San Diego State, so he’s familiar with the West Coast. His loss would be a huge blow for the Huskers, who ranked 18th in the FBS in scoring defense.
The same site has also reported that White wasn’t going to be hired by USC. That was earlier this workout and weight loss morning, so hopefully, this new report also proves to be inaccurate.
