Nebraska football still projected to make a bowl game

Nebraska football has three games left to get a sixth win for a bowl game but multiple outlets are projecting it to happen.

Hopefully, you had a peaceful bye week, Nebraska football fans, because the stretch run starts this week with a road game against the USC Trojans.

USC is nearly a double-digit favorite against Nebraska football, but the Huskers do better when nobody expects anything of them, so who cares what Vegas thinks?

This a game between two flawed teams. We’ll see who comes out on top but the Trojans can at least move the ball consistently. Nebraska football did hire Dana Holgorsen last week as an offensive consultant, and hopefully, he’ll make an immediate impact on QB Dylan Raiola.

Nebraska needs one more win to become bowl-eligible. I still believe in my heart of hearts that the Huskers will get that sixth win — the Wisconsin game is the one I have circled and plenty of pundits agree because Nebraska football is still being projected to make a bowl game by ESPN (two analysts do projections), CBS Sports, and Athlon.

Multiple projections have the Huskers going to the Rate Bowl, which is in Arizona. Another projection has the Huskers in the Music City Bowl, which seems a tad optimistic.

Frankly, I don’t care what bowl game the Huskers play in, as long as they qualify to play in one. All three games down the stretch are winnable. All of them are losable too. That’s just the reality.

If the Nebraska defense that shows up against Ohio State, is the defense we see over the next three games, and Holgorsen can add a spark to the offense, the Huskers could win all three.

They just need to win one though. It would be great if it happened on Saturday, but recent experience tells me to expect something different.
