Nebraska football linebacker Luke Reimer was a participant at Big Ten media days on Thursday. He opened up about the defense, as he looks to continue a solid career at Nebraska.

Reimer has been one of the mainstays of the Nebraska football defense over the years. He has recorded 245 tackles in 35 games played over the course of four seasons.  He was successful in Eric Chinander’s defense, and he always seemed to be at the right place at the right time.

Now, he is getting a chance to see how he fits in Tony White’s defense. The linebacker could be a solid fit for the defensive unit. His instincts and ability to be around the football make him an intriguing linebacker.

His responsibilities may be a little bit different in this edition of the 3-3-5 defense. Nevertheless, this is a defense that I personally could see him really succeeding in. It’s exciting to imagine him in this particular version of this defense.

Defensive scheme could mean versatility for Nebraska football

Reimer had positive things to say about the defense as well. He spoke to the media on Thursday. He talked about how freely the defense is constructed, as reported by Luke Mullin of the Lincoln Journal-Star.

“There’s just a lot more movement with this defense than there has been in years past; it’s just a different philosophy on how to do things,” Reimer said. “… It’s a defense that opens up a lot of possibilities. A lot of different guys can plug-and-play and just play freely, play loose and go make plays.”

These comments are certainly exciting to hear. For one, it doesn’t sound like Nebraska football will be stuck with a single personnel group defensively. This could also mean that Reimer will focus on flying around and going after the football, rather than how he is going to fit in the scheme. Don’t get me wrong, scheme will be important. However, it doesn’t sound like it will be the be-all, end-all that will determine a player’s success.

I’m eager to see where Reimer fits in the scheme. He should be able to have a good year, and be that leader defensively once again.
