One thing we have learned so far during Nebraska football spring ball is that the Huskers have a quarterback. They might even have two or three.

The Nebraska Spring League highlights were released again on Wednesday night, giving us a glimpse into what happened on the practice field.

It was clear from the open part of Nebraska football practice on Tuesday that Danny Kaelin is playing well. The Spring League highlights showed it again. Kaelin led his team to a win on Day 5, which featured end-of-game scenarios. A touchdown was a win for the offense, while a field goal was a tie. A turnover or stop was a win for the defense.

Dylan Raiola was shown throwing a dart down the field to Isaiah Neyor for a touchdown. Yet, Kaelin also had a couple of touchdowns to transfer Jahmal Banks, who definitely looks the part of a No. 1 wide receiver.

Competition is heating up between QBs, WRs

You can also see the competition heating up. We talked about how Kaelin was putting himself in the mix for QB1. At the very least, he’s not going to give up the job without a fight.

That’s exactly what you want. Competition is healthy and the Huskers have three guys battling it out. Kaelin is an Elite 11 quarterback. We also told anyone who would listen that he was underrated as a recruit — as many Nebraska in-state recruits are. Kaelin is a big dude with a big arm. He’s got touch, and accuracy and is starting to look ready to play.

There is a long way to go. But Rhule said the goal was to have all three quarterbacks ready to start for the UTEP game in the fall. Right now, I’d say that’s looking like a success.

Then, when you look at the receivers, you see just how much potential there is for the Nebraska football pass offense. It won’t look like last year. In some ways, it might not look like anything we have ever seen.
