Nebraska football wide receiver Jacory Barney is impressing at practice, as the program’s wide receiver depth continues to be a source of strength.

Barney committed to Nebraska in July, after the program won a recruiting battle with the Miami Hurricanes. He played quarterback, running back, and wide receiver for Palmetto High School. There was little question about his athleticism, as he was able to showcase his breakaway speed and catching ability at the high school level.

Now, he looks to make a name for himself as a projected slot receiver for Nebraska football. The wide receiver room is deep and several wideouts will have to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Barney was able to showcase his athleticism to reporters on Tuesday.  Mike’l Severe was impressed with the wide receiver’s ability to go after the football.

Out of all the receivers in the room, Barney may be one of the more underrated names. Nebraska football used to have trouble getting production from the slot receiver position. Now, they have two options at the very least in Barney and Jaylen Lloyd.

An underrated recruit for Nebraska football

It’s hard not to get excited about Barney’s athleticism and speed. In addition, he is able to make contested catches in tight windows. He brings out a level of dynamic athleticism that Nebraska football has made a priority in recruiting. Barney is slippery when it comes to tackling, and that only adds to his ability

Yes, the wide receiver room is crowded. There are a ton of bodies at the position. Nevertheless, Barney could make an impact early. He has the type of explosiveness that the Huskers want within the offense. He is making a strong impression over the course of spring practices, and that certainly bodes him well. Of course, the real test will be when fall camp begins. If he can carry over this strong spring, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

It’s hard not to get excited about Barney. This Nebraska football wide receiver room is loaded, and he is certainly going to be a big part of the equation. Several freshman saw the field right away last year, and that spoke to the coaching staff’s ability to recruit. Barney should be one of those guys come the fall. It’s hard not to get excited about him.
