Nebraska football started off the month of July on a high note, landing a commitment from athlete JaCory Barney.

Barney is a four-star wide receiver. He is the 35th overall wide receiver in the 2024 class, and the 62nd overall player in the class from the state of Florida. He is listed as an athlete.

Nebraska football went toe-to-toe with Miami for this recruitment. Barney was busy at both schools over the past couple of weeks. He took a visit to Miami on June 23, during one of the programs big visit weekends. Barney also was able to visit Nebraska this month, doing so on June 2.

Barney will be able to bring a variety of things to Nebraska football.  He measures in at 6 feet, 160 pounds. With that comes speed. He may be a bit on the smaller side, but that does not impact his game much at all. Barney excels at making things happen after the catch. He is extremely shifty, and that allows him to make defenders miss.

Barney can also make tight, contested catches in-between defenders. He would probably function best for Nebraska football as a slot receiver. He has the quickness and ability to help stretch the field at that spot. Nebraska football is going to need a slot wide receiver once Billy Kemp leaves. Barney should be able to take over that role.

Speaking of’ roles’, the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class is on one right now. Nebraska now has 23 commitments, and has the 14th overall class in the country per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. There is definitely talent in this class. Nebraska has six four-star players. This class could be a building block for the rest of the program.

Nebraska has won many big recruiting battles over the last couple weeks. Getting Barney is no exception. A recruiting victory over Mario Cristobal and Miami is certainly sweet.
