Weird things happen with the transfer portal and on Saturday, Marques Groves-Killebrew, a cornerback from Arizona, who committed to Nebraska football, announced he was returning to Arizona.

It felt similar to the Jonah Wilson situation. Wilson, a former Houston wide receiver, was supposed to sign with Nebraska and join as a walk-on, until the spring at least, but the flipped to Texas A&M.

I’m not sure if there was a similar consideration for Groves-Killebrew. There continue to be reports that Nebraska football is up against the spring scholarship limit. So maybe that played a role here. I have no idea, but the fact remains that Nebraska won’t have the cornerback on the roster next season.

The Huskers would have been his fourth team. However, Groves-Killebrew started games for Arizona last season and would have provided some valuable experience for the secondary.

Jamir Conn and Andrew Marshall each transferred up from the FCS. So the Huskers still added two players with starting experience making this move not as painful as it could have been, especially with some talented younger guys like Dononvan Jones who started and played well for Nebraska football in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Nebraska wrestling falls to Penn State in front of a record crowd

On Friday night, the Nebraska Cornhuskers set their record for wrestling attendance in a dual against No. 1 Penn State but still fell short in a 31-7 loss. Penn State continued a five-year winning streak in dual competition.

According to Huskers.com, Ridge Lovett scored bonus points in his first-ever matchup against No. 2 Shayne Van Ness, and No. 16 Van Dee took down No. 5 Braeden Davis.  The 24-point Husker loss was the smallest margin yet for Penn State’s 2024-25 season but with three tech. falls and a major decision, PSU notched another Big Ten victory and pushed the series lead to 13-8-1 PSU.

Nebraska women’s basketball to face Wisconsin on Monday

Usually, the Nebraska women’s basketball team plays on Sunday, but the Cornhuskers will have a Monday matchup against Wisconsin at 7 PM CST.

Nebraska has won four games in a row after road losses to UCLA and USC — a pair of top-4 teams. The Huskers knocked off Iowa in overtime and are 5-2 in the Big Ten. Britt Prince has been on a roll, along with Alexis Markowski.

They combined for 41 points in the win over Iowa. Prince drilled a 3-pointer, and made two clutch free throws down the stretch to send the game into overtime but Amy Williams’ team is getting contributions from all over the place.

Wisconsin is just 1-6 in the Big Ten. Big Ten Network will broadcast the game.
