Nebraska football commit Daniel Kaelin is ready for the Elite 11 finals, set to begin on Wednesday. He opened up about what type of mindset he’s had, in order to get him to this stage.
Kaelin had a decorated high school career for Bellevue West, passing for 3,186 yards and 36 touchdowns to only seven interceptions last season.
However, it wasn’t just last year where he showed promise. He showed promise from as far back as his freshman year. He played in four games, and used that experience to put together a stronger sophomore campaign. The quarterback tallied 693 yards, and five touchdowns. His arm strength was evident in his sophomore campaign, as he averaged 13.9 yards per pass.
Last year seemed to be the culmination of his work as he was really able to make himself a desired signal-caller.
A good fit for Nebraska football
In terms of just skills, it’s easy to see why. He is very good in the pocket, and has the type of arm that will allow him to get the ball down the field quickly. With their latest quarterback offers, it seems as though Nebraska wants to run more of a pro-style offense. Kaelin would be perfect for that role. His arm strength and accuracy are both things that will lend well to the type of offense.
As of now, he is on his way to the Elite 11 finals. He shared his mindset as he heads into the event, per Mike Schaefer of Husker247.
“Ever since I got to high school playing the quarterback position became an obsession for me. Everything I do is geared toward making me the best quarterback I can be, while still having the school aspect and social aspect. It’s not that hard to balance, because it’s something I really want. I just want to be the best possible quarterback I can be and play for as long as I can play.”
It’s been quite the rise for the Nebraska high school quarterback. After seeming like Nebraska football was out of the running for his services, they managed to swoop in, following Dylan Raiola’s commitment to Georgia.
Now, he represents Nebraska at one of the top quarterback competitions in the nation. He has a chance to establish himself, and write the first chapter of what has the chance to be a long collegiate story.
