Nebraska fans will love what Anthony Colandrea said about Huskers’ O-line

For years, maybe even a decade, Nebraska football fans have been clamoring for a better offensive line.

It seems that in 2026, the Huskers finally have one.

Matt Rhule talked about what needed to be done in the trenches when he was first hired, but keeping Donovan Raiola on staff proved to be a mistake. The offensive line wasn’t where it needed to be.

We don’t know for certain that it is now, but it feels much easier to say it is, with confidence, under new O-line coach Geep Wade, who has transformed the current offensive line room, as well as the way the Huskers recruit.

Wade added three experienced starters to the offensive line. Brendan Black started over 30 games at Iowa State. Tree Babalade and Paul Mubenga combined for 26 starts in the SEC with LSU and South Carolina. That’s almost 60 Power-4 starts, on top of the more than 50 starts between Elijah Pritchett and Justin Evans.

In college football, experience matters, and in the eyes of Nebraska football quarterback Anthony Colandrea, who spoke to the media on Tuesday, this offensive line is “elite.”

“They’re elite… It’s the best five I’ve ever been behind,” Colandrea said via Kevin Sjuts.

Players will always talk up their teammates, at least at this point in the season (fall camp). However, it probably is the best offensive line Colandrea has played with. We called it the best position group on the team.

There is depth beyond the starting five, too. Gunnar Gottula has been a starter before. Tyler Knaak could start if needed, too, along with some others.

As excited as Colandrea is to play for the Nebraska football offensive line, those guys seem just as excited to block for a quarterback who is willing to make things happen with his feet. Luke Lindenmeyer called Colandrea a squirrel last week at Big Ten Media Days, and it feels like he will be just as good for the offensive line as it will be for him.

That combination is one that fans should feel good about, and a reason drinking the Nebraska football Kool-Aid isn’t crazy.
