Nebraska football fans have been waiting for the Huskers to address the offensive line. Well, after some misses, it feels like an offensive line commitment from the transfer portal is on the horizon.

Elijah Pritchett, a five-star offensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting class, entered the transfer portal from Alabama recently. Nebraska football quickly made a move and got him on campus for an official visit on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-6, 327-pounder played in 12 games last season for Alabama with two starts. According to 247 Sports, Pritchett is the No. 4 offensive tackle available in the transfer portal. He’s also ranked 42nd overall.

Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong of On3.com have already projected Pritchett to land with the Huskers and after the visit on Tuesday, it feels like just a matter of time.

Many Nebraska football fans have wanted the Huskers to add a couple of players on the offensive line,  especially at tackle, and according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online, Nebraska will host another transfer portal tackle, Shiyazh Pete from New Mexico on Wednesday.

Pete is 6-foot-8, 320 pounds. He was all-conference back in 2023 in Conference USA. Pete has played more than 1,800 snaps at left tackle in his college career.

Nebraska football is trending with Pritchett, but if the Huskers landed Pete too, they’d have a pair of new starting tackles for the 2025 season, which would be a huge positive.

Gunnar Gottula has been fine but probably would be better as a swing tackle. He could even move inside and compete for a starting job there. Vanderbilt did get a crystal ball for Pete at one point, but this visit shows his recruitment is far from over.

Nebraska football trying to add C-USA sack leader too

Maurice Westmoreland, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound EDGE also visited the Huskers on Tuesday. Westmoreland had 15 sacks over the past two seasons for UTEP, with 7.5 in each season. He’s ranked 718th overall according to the 247 Sports transfer portal rankings.

There might be holes in his game as a run defender, which could be the reason for the low grade (just guessing) but he could certainly fill the void left by James Williams as a pure pass-rush specialist.

Protecting and affecting the quarterback is vital to winning and all three of these transfers would help in that department, one way or another.
