The 2024 Nebraska football season can’t get here soon enough. There was already plenty of excitement looking ahead to the 2024 campaign, but it was magnified after the spring game.
People saw how special Dylan Raiola can be. It wasn’t just for a highlight, it was for the entire first half. He completed 16 passes to 13 different receivers. Some of the throws were incredible and it’s raised my expectations for the 2024 Nebraska football team.
It seems to have raised the expectations of others as well. Joel Klatt, a well-known college football analyst who calls games for Fox Sports, put the Nebraska Cornhuskers in his post-spring top 25. On Thursday, so did JD Pickell on On3.com, who ranked Nebraska football 24th in his post-spring, post-portal top 25.
In the most recent win over/under projections, the number for Nebraska football was set at 7.5, which is behind only Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, and Penn State in the Big Ten. The expectations are high but first things first, Nebraska football needs to start the season 1-0, which it hasn’t done since 2019 as Matt Rhule pointed out earlier this week.
If you’re worried about players looking too far ahead, I wouldn’t with Rhule. He knows what’s at stake.
Nebraska football is pushing hard to get a visit from ASU decommitment
Rylon Dillard-Allen was a top target for Nebraska football before he pledged to Arizona State. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound safety from Phoenix is ranked No. 474 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and he has a few schools making a push after he re-opened his recruitment.
Dillard-Allen told 247 Sports that he’s going to visit Texas A&M and Washington. He also said he expects to visit the Nebraska Cornhuskers who have been “pushing hard” to get him on campus.
Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team gets key win
The Nebraska Cornhuskers can still win the Big Ten baseball championship. They will need some help in the form of a loss by Illinois, but if the Fighting Illini drop a game and Nebraska baseball sweeps Michigan State, they should be Big Ten champions.
Nebraska started strong on Thursday, knocking off the Spartans 2-1 in the opening game. Brett Sears was spectacular again for the Cornhuskers earning his eighth win of the season (8-0). He’s just the second Huskers pitcher since 1999 to start the season 8-0.
Thursday was his 11th quality start of the season as he allowed just one run on six hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out four and gave way to Caleb Clark, who earned the save after not allowing a run in 2.1 innings. Ben Columbus led the way at the dish with a 3-for-4 effort that included an RBI. Joshua Overbeek also had two hits including an RBI double that drove in the first run of the game.
Nebraska will play Michigan State on Friday at 4 p.m. CST on the Big Ten Network. The Huskers are now 15-7 in the Big Ten, while Illinois is 16-6.
