Nebraska football will get a visit from 2025 four- star linebacker Elijah  Bo Barnes. This is an official visit, and will take place on April 30.

Barnes also has several other visits lined up. This includes LSU on March 9, Ohio State on March 23, Alabama on March 30, and Texas on April 6.

Barnes is the 15th overall linebacker in the 2025 class, in the 16th overall player in his class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Rankings. He has a numerical rating of 91.

What could he bring to Nebraska football?

When you look at his game, you could certainly see where he would fit in the Nebraska for the defense. He is especially efficient at stopping the run. He is also very sound in dropping back in coverage. Reading plays is a strong suit of his, and that versatility certainly allows him to be a multi-faceted threat on defense.

His play recognition is also a strong point of his game as well. He is able to fill running lanes quickly, and cause disruption in offensive back fields.  Barnes is the type of player that Nebraska could use in a positionless defense. We saw players thrive in that defense last year.

Not only is Barnes a good player, but he could also fit Nebraska’s scheme nicely. There is definitely more to his recruitment that him just being a star player. This coaching staff has done a solid job of identifying players who will fit in this defense. Barnes could certainly be added to the conversation here.

However, Nebraska is certainly going to have their work out for them. It is still somewhat early in his recruitment, but it will be a challenge competing with the likes of LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama for example. With that being said, this coaching staff has not been afraid to compete with bigger programs for top recruits.

Currently, Nebraska football has three commitments in the 2025 class, including one potential linebacker in Caden VerMass. Barnes would be the highest-rated recruitment in the class, and give the program its first true linebacker.

It will be interesting to see how this recruitment plays out. Getting Barnes on an official visit definitely means that the program considers him a priority prospect. On top of this, the Huskers have had success in the state of Texas before, and that is an area where this coaching staff does really well.

Anything can happen in recruiting, and things will certainly become a lot easier if the Huskers can start putting winning seasons together. This is certainly a recruitment to watch for now.
