Nebraska football fills huge need with transfer portal commitment

Nebraska football needed a long snapper and landed one with the commitment of Kevin Gallic from New Hampshire.

When listing positional needs for Nebraska football in the transfer portal, there could be a healthy debate at a few spots about whether reinforcements are needed.

But there wasn’t a debate about the need for a new long snapper. Poor snaps cost Nebraska football in a few key moments last season, such as a loss to Iowa, when the Huskers, who lost by three, missed a field goal thanks to a poor snap.

If that kick had been good, the game might have gone differently. A lot of blame has been placed on special teams coach Ed Foley — deservedly so in some instances — but sometimes, you just need better players.

Nebraska football makes key transfer portal addition

There were too many mistakes in the kicking game and they always seemed to resurface at the worst time. John Hohl was consistent down the stretch. After the Ohio State game, he missed only one kick and it was due to a bad snap.

Determined to fix this, Nebraska football brought in former New Hampshire long-snapper Kevin Gallic for a visit who ended up announcing his commitment on X soon after. He’s played in 36 games over the past three seasons and was named an FCS All-American (long-snapper) according to Phil Steele, a college football expert.

Gallic visited Nebraska this week but his commitment was far from a slam dunk. TCU was also involved and if he wasn’t locked up, another program might have come after him.

The Huskers were able to convince him to commit after his visit and his addition, even if it isn’t sexy in the grand scheme of things, is pretty damn sexy to Nebraska fans who watched poor long snapping cost the Huskers more than once in 2024.

That is one worry/need that can be crossed off the checklist.
