The good momentum on the recruiting trail continued for Nebraska football on Thursday. They landed 2024 defensive lineman Carlon Jones on Thursday afternoon.
Jones is a three-star defensive lineman. He has an 87 numerical rating.
Jones was recruited to Nebraska by defensive line coach Terrence Knighton. He was able to make it out to campus this month, taking a visit on June 2.
Knighton has done a good job on the recruiting trail overall. He has landed Princewill Umanmielen, Cameron Lenhardt, and Tyson Terry among others. Knighton is proving that he is more than just a position coach. He is also a good recruiter.
What can he bring to Nebraska Football?
Jones adds much-needed help to the Nebraska defensive line. He tallied 102 tackles and 13 sacks as a junior. He was named the Texas District 12-4A D1- Co-Defensive MVP. He played football for Bay City High School, and was a teammate of Nebraska commit Brice Turner.
Jones measures in at six-foot-two, 270 pounds. He is extremely quick, and fires off the football as soon as it is snapped. Athleticism is a major part of his game, and he uses it to get into the backfield quickly. To me, he looks more like a pass-rusher then a run-stopper. That is not a bad thing, as Nebraska football will need that with the 3-3-5 defensive scheme they are implementing. He has the ability to collapse a pocket quickly. This is something that Nebraska football has not had in quite some time.
This is another big get for a Nebraska football recruiting class that has been absolutely on fire. The class itself ranks 13th overall, per the 247Sports Team Rankings. This is certainly an extremely strong class, and it could get even stronger with some other commitments to round it out. This class also has a nice balance of players. Between the skill players, offensive lineman, and defensive line help, this is shaping up to be a well-rounded group.
It will be interesting to see who Nebraska lands to round out the 2024 class. One thing is for certain, this month has been fun.
