Nebraska football landed a commitment from 2024 four-star tight and Carter Nelson. Nelson made the announcement on Instagram, and it was confirmed by multiple reports.

This is a big pickup for the Nebraska football program. Nelson is the second overall tight end in the 2024 class, and the top overall player in the class from the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He had been trending to Nebraska in recent days, and it appears all those Crystal Ball predictions were correct.

Nelson was recruited to Nebraska by offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield. Tight ends coach Bob Wager served as the secondary recruiter. He most recently visited Nebraska this past weekend.

Wager has been able to really revitalize the tight end position on the recruiting trail. Ian Flynt, Ismael Smith Flores, and Nelson have all been recruits of his.

What can he bring to Nebraska Football?

Nelson will be a game-changing player for Nebraska football at the tight end position. He can bring several things to the table. For one, his size is going to be hard to contend with. He measures in at six-foot-four, 205 pounds. Nelson’s athleticism is absolutely apparent when watching his tape. He can make things happen after the catch, and he provides a big body for quarterbacks to throw to.

Nelson recorded 47 catches for 663 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. He was a man among boys, and was able to set the table offensively for Ainsworth.

This is absolutely a massive get for Nebraska football. They have had a tremendous month of June, and they have managed to lock down some of the top in-state targets. In-state recruiting has been lacking in recent seasons. That is not the case under Matt Rhule. This coaching staff is building a fence, and setting the table for pipelines in the state in the future. Look no further than Bellevue West.

Currently, the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class rank 16th overall nationally per the 247Sports rankings. Nelson’s commitment makes it six Nebraska kids in the 2024 class. He also adds to Nebraska’s impressive 14 total commitments in the month of June.

Nelson’s commitment could completely change the trajectory of the tight end position, and adds a bona fide weapon offensively. Nebraska football has the star quarterback. Now , they are surrounding him with weapons in order to get the job done.
