Nebraska Football: A huge visit weekend and more recruiting positives

Nebraska football landed a quarterback commitment this weekend and there are more recruiting positives for the Huskers.

If you’re a Nebraska football fan, you probably woke up in a good mood on this Monday morning. Call it the Daniel Kaelin effect.

Kaelin is a three-star quarterback but he’s one of the top players in the state and his commitment was huge for Nebraska football and Matt Rhule. He’s ranked 521 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings, but I don’t think the rankings do “Danny Dimes” justice.

I’m convinced he’ll be a future starter for the Huskers, just like I was convinced Missouri landed a future SEC starter when it got Kaelin’s commitment.

It has to be tough for Missouri fans to see how this went down, but Kaelin wanted to play for Nebraska football and it sounds like Matt Rhule was honest and upfront about the Huskers’ plans.

Mike Leach once said that “Kids can smell fake a mile away,” and that’s why the fact that Rhule is genuine really pays off for Nebraska football and will continue to in the future.

Daniel Kaelin official visit comes at a perfect time

You have to give Rhule credit. The man knows what he’s doing. Following Kaelin’s commitment, I wrote that the Huskers should get him to visit on June 23rd and that’s exactly what they’re doing.

This is important because his teammates and Nebraska football top targets Isaiah McMorris and Dae’vonn Hall are also taking official visits that weekend. Hall and McMorris both play wide receiver. The Huskers can and should take both.

Frankly, I’m not worried about the wide receiver numbers. McMorris and Hall are each top five recruits in the state of Nebraska. Landing them, along with Kaelin would be huge. Get them committed and shoot your shot with Gatlin Bair, although he’s not visiting June 23rd — he’ll be at Michigan that weekend which is a bit disappointing.

Still, there is a lot to feel good about going into the June 23rd weekend, which is shaping up to be a big one.

A Georgia crystal ball that might be good for Nebraska

Another reason to feel good about Kaelin coming that weekend is that Carter Nelson will be visiting Nebraska football on June 23rd.

That means the Huskers will have four of the top five players in the state on campus that weekend. Nelson is also expected to take visits to Georgia and Notre Dame.

However, Georgia was just projected to land Colton Heinrich a three-star tight end in the 2024 class. Steve Wiltfong also projected the Bulldogs to land Jaden Reddell, a four-star tight end also in 2024.

Both of those predictions have come within the past month so it could be a sign that the Bulldogs aren’t feeling great about their chances with Nelson.

Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia have all made trips to see Nelson this month. Notre Dame is also in the mix and can’t be forgotten about. But you have to like where the Huskers sit with Nelson, especially when you consider the visit timeline and the fact that Georgia might not be the threat we thought it was going to be.
