Nebraska basketball landed a  commitment on Tuesday from UCLA forward Berke Buyuktuncel. The announcement was made on X.

There had been smoke about Nebraska basketball landing  Buyuktuncel. He took a visit to the program at the end of May, and some news was being teased prior to the Memorial Day holiday. Now, Nebraska has one of their top targets, in an offseason that has been busy in the transfer portal.

Buyuktuncel averaged 4.5 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 26% from the field.

Buyuktuncel is a very dynamic player in the sense that he can shoot from both inside the paint and beyond the arc. He has a soft touch around the rim, and can finish at the basket with ease. The versatility he brings to the table is exactly what’s needed in a Fred Hoiberg-led offense.

This just adds to what is already a strong forward unit for the program. When you take a look at the roster, Brice Williams headlines the power forward position. The return of Juwan Gary and the addition of Andrew Morgan in the transfer portal also strengthen the position. Williams will undoubtedly be the starter at forward, but Buyuktuncel undoubtedly has a chance to make an impact.

On top of this, he has multiple years of eligibility. This has been a theme with the latest slew of Nebraska basketball transfers. Buyuktuncel is a freshman, and will have multiple years to grow in the program. This Nebraska basketball coaching staff has done a nice job over the past couple of classes of setting up a solid foundation for the future.

A solid Nebraska basketball transfer class

Currently, the transfer class ranks 59th overall in the country per the 247Sports Rankings. However, that is bound to change with this commitment. Nebraska basketball has done a nice job of filling holes on the roster with this group of transfers.

Getting Buyuktuncel was an important get for a program that looks to get back to the NCAA tournament. It will be interesting to see what Nebraska basketball will do with the final roster spot, but this is exactly what the program needed in terms of talent and play style.
