The Huskers will play for a national championship on Sunday, plus a bunch of buzz for Nebraska football on the recruiting trail.
It could be one hell of a Sunday for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. For starters, the volleyball team will battle Texas at 2 p.m. CST for the national championship.
The once-beaten Huskers swept past Pittsburgh on Thursday night, setting up a national title showdown with the defending champs. Texas defeated Wisconsin in four sets.
Texas was incredible hitting the ball against Wisconsin and hit .400 in the third set. Madisen Skinner is a name to know. She’s had at least 18 kills in all five NCAA matches for Texas. Both teams are stellar defensively and Nebraska will be relying on four freshmen — Harper Murray, Bergen Reilly, Andi Jackson, and Laney Choboy along with stalwarts like Lexi Rodriguez, Merritt Beason, Bekka Allick, and Ally Batenhorst.
The formula has worked all season for the top-ranked Huskers who are seeking their sixth national championship in volleyball. Nebraska-Texas will be on ABC and is the first national title volleyball match to be broadcast on national television.
Dylan Raiola spotted at Nebraska wrestling match
Nebraska football fans were tracking planes on Friday but Dylan Raiola made it to Lincoln for his official visit. On Saturday night, he was spotted at the Huskers wrestling match.
There were more expert projections for Nebraska football to land Raiola over the weekend. There are seven crystal ball projections for the Huskers to land Raiola, as well as a bunch from On3.com.
People keep teasing positive things, including Matt Rhule, who posted on X after the entire coaching staff flew to Ainsworth to visit Nebraska football commitment Carter Nelson, a top-100 recruit.
The buzz seems positive around Dylan Raiola and some people seem to think a commitment could come on Sunday. Signing Day is on Wednesday, so we’ll know soon one way or another.
In other Nebraska football recruiting news, Sean Callahan and others have projected the Huskers to flip Larry Tarver, a three-star cornerback committed to Maryland. Nebraska is also trying to flip four-star linebacker Dylan Williams, a four-star committed to Oregon.
A huge game for Nebraska basketball
While there is plenty to focus on with Nebraska volleyball playing for the national title, as well as Dylan Raiola watch, Nebraska basketball has a big game too.
The win last Sunday over Michigan State is already looking better after the Spartans dominated sixth-ranked Baylor on Saturday. We told you that the Huskers’ win over Michigan State was going to look better as the season went on and it’s already proving true.
On Sunday, the Huskers face old Big-8 rival Kansas State. This would be a quadrant-1 win for Nebraska. It’s also a chance to start 9-2 and add a signature non-conference win on the road.
That could really matter for the NCAA resume in March. Oregon State was a decent win. Duquesne could be too, but the Huskers could use a win like this.
Both teams are 8-2. The Huskers are ranked 62nd according to Kenpom. Kansas State is 46th. The Wildcats have three players scoring 16 points per game — Camryn Carter, Arthur Kaluma, and Tyler Perry. Those three players also average 6.6 3-point makes per game. So limiting them will be the key.
Tip-off is set for 2 pm CST. The game will be on ESPN+.
