In the latest episode of ‘Chasing 3’ the documentary series the Nebraska football program put out, we got more insight into head coach Matt Rhule and this 2024 Huskers squad.

During halftime, when Nebraska football was leading 21-3, Rhule talked about how the Huskers weren’t satisfied at halftime of their 34-3 win over Northern Iowa. That feeling, Rhule said, was a sign of how far things had come in just two seasons.

“The feeling you feel right now of frustration is because you know you can play better,” Rhule said to the Nebraska football team during halftime. “That’s a testament to how far we have come as an organization — that we’re up 21-3 and we aren’t happy with it. That’s championship-caliber football.”

Rhule also told Nebraska football players they can’t “panic.” He then told the Huskers to go out and compete in the second half. They did and shut out Northern Iowa 13-0 in the second half. It wasn’t pretty, but Nebraska improved to 3-0 and covered the spread for the third straight week.

How Nebraska football goes from “good to great”

After the game, Rhule spoke about how the Huskers were becoming a “good team” but that there were new challenges with Big Ten play starting on Friday against Illinois.

“When you want to start winning conference games, it’s going to take everyone,” Rhule said. “Winning games 34-3 like you’re supposed to, while it’s not as exhilarating as last week (Colorado) that’s what good teams do. You’re slowly becoming a good team. Now, you have to fight to become a great team.”

That fight starts Friday night in Lincoln.
