Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule knew that the Huskers needed to get better at the quarterback position going into the 2024 season. To make that happen, the coaching staff was aggressive, but some got some good fortune with the commitment of five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola.
Don’t get me wrong, Rhule was a big reason why Raiola signed with Nebraska football. I believe that. But I’m not sure Rhule lands the five-star QB without his ties to the school. The fact that Dominic Raiola played for the Huskers made a difference and that relationship was a huge factor.
Now the question about Dylan Raiola is when will he start? Most are expecting him to be the day-one starter for Nebraska football in the fall.
Fellow freshman Daniel Kaelin might have something to say about that. Returning quarterback Heinrich Haarberg is also in the mix after starting and winning all five games for Nebraska last season, although he lost some starts too, and struggled taking care of the ball.
When will Nebraska football name a starting quarterback
The competition ramps up in a couple of weeks as Nebraska football starts spring practice on March 24th. In an interview with JD Pickell of On3.com, Rhule talked about the quarterback position and said he’s not going to try and create unnecessary drama when it comes to naming a starter.
“I think when we know, we know,” Rhule said at the 21:00 mark. “I don’t want to play games with people. If we know, we know. At the same time, we have also figured out, it’s going to take a couple of guys. Most years, you aren’t just going to play one quarterback. So our job is to push all of those guys to be great and to show what they can do. We are going to coach everybody, but when it’s clear, we’ll do it.”
