Juwan Gary responds to snub, Nebraska basketball bracketology update, plus more

It was a banner day for Nebraska basketball in terms of Big Ten awards, but it was also a frustrating day for Cornhusker fans who felt their team deserved better.

Fred Hoiberg was named Co-Big Ten Coach of the Year with Matt Painter of Purdue. Painter is spectacular and so were his Boilermakers on their way to the Big Ten regular-season championship. But Nebraska basketball was selected 12th and finished third. The Huskers also had one player selected to the first or second All-Big Ten team (Keisei Tominaga), which shows what a great job Hoiberg did this season.

Nebraska finished the regular season 22-9. They went 12-8 in the Big Ten and earned the double-bye for the first time. The Huskers are also trending toward their first NCAA tournament selection since 2014.

But Gary was clearly miffed about being passed over for the all-defensive team, as he should be. He posted on X, “Bet. Enough said.”

So I’d expect to see a motivated Juwan Gary when Nebraska basketball takes the floor for the Big Ten quarterfinals on Friday night at approximately 8 PM CST.

Nebraska basketball bracketology updates

The bracketology projections are coming more frequently now that we are in the final week before March Madness for men’s and women’s college basketball.

For the Nebraska basketball men’s team, the Huskers are still projected as a No. 9 seed by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. He has them in Brooklyn, facing Boise State in the same bracket as UConn, the defending national champs. The Huskers are included in all (123 brackets) tracked by Bracket Matrix. Their average seed is nine.

In other words, they are a lock to make the field. Nebraska basketball will be selected for the women’s tournament too. The Huskers are being projected as a No. 8 seed by ESPN, which projects them to Columbia to be part of the South Carolina bracket. Kansas would be the first-round opponent.

Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball wins again

Nebraska baseball was on the road against Wichita State on Tuesday night and thanks to seven runs in two middle innings, the Huskers held on for an 8-6 win.

Cole Evans had a big night at the plate for Nebraska baseball, going 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Tyler Stone also notched a home run, his third in the last five games. Ben Columbus was also credited with two hits, a double, and three RBI.

On the mound, Will Walsh got the win for Nebraska baseball, allowing three runs on six hits and two strikeouts in six innings. Evan Borst and Casey Daiss closed things out in relief for the 10-4 Huskers who will play Wichita State again on Wednesday night (6 PM CST, ESPN+).
