It was a helluva weekend for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Both Nebraska basketball teams got important wins and the Husker women made an epic run to the Big Ten women’s basketball championship game before losing in overtime to Caitlin Clark and Iowa.

The Nebraska men’s basketball team went to Ann Arbor on Sunday and completed the season sweep of Michigan basketball by a score of 85-70. The Huskers have won six of their last seven games and each victory has come by a double-digit margin.

Nebraska basketball is playing its best when it matters most. We just watched the ladies make a run at the Big Ten tournament, and with the double bye in hand, the Huskers will take on Indiana, Penn State, or Michigan on Friday at 2:30 PM EST for a berth in the semifinals.

As far as bracketology, Nebraska is a No. 9 seed according to ESPN’s latest projection. A run to the championship game would likely improve that. Speaking of championship game runs, the Nebraska women’s basketball moved up to a No. 8 seed in the recent women’s bracketology, which I’ll admit, seems too low. We should also note that Jaz Shelley broke the Big Ten women’s tournament record for 3-pointers over the weekend.

Both Nebraska basketball teams are headed to March Madness and after recent strings of stellar play, there’s reason to believe both teams can make a run.

Ridge Lovett wins a Big Ten title, Nash joins nine Nebraska wrestlers at nationals

Big Ten championships are always a big deal and Ridge Lovett wrapped up his in the 149-pound weight class for the Nebraska Cornhuskers wrestling team on Sunday, defeating Austin Gomez of Michigan by decision. Lovett has been ranked No. 1 all season for the Huskers and will aim for a national title in Kansas City the NCAA Wrestling tournament March 21-23.

Nash Hutmacher is among nine Nebraska wrestlers to advance to nationals. More could still be added to the bracket but these nine are automatic. In addition to Lovett and Hutmacher, Caleb Smith (125), Jacob Van Dee (133), Brock Hardy (141), Peyton Robb (157), Antrell Taylor (165), Lenny Pinto (184), and Silas Allred (197) all qualified.

Penn State won the Big Ten title. The Nebraska Cornhuskers took third.

Another rally and series win for baseball

On the diamond, the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team pulled off another comeback win on Sunday, which allowed them to win their weekend series against South Alabama.

The Huskers dropped the first game of the series 11-3, before taking game two 13-2. However, Nebraska baseball trailed 6-1 at one point on Sunday, before Nebraska was able to rally, scoring four runs in the fifth and six in the sixth inning on their way to a 12-7 win.

Tyler Stone had three hits in the win for the Huskers. Dylan Carey was credited with two hits and three RBI for the Cornhuskers. His effort also included a home run. The win on Saturday for Nebraska was spearheaded by the arm of Brett Sears, who earned his second win of the season after allowing two runs on fourth hits and striking out seven in eight innings of work.

Nebraska baseball is 9-4 on the season and will play at Wichita State on Tuesday and Wednesday. The first pitch is at 6 PM CST on both days with ESPN Plus on the broadcast.
