Nebraska football was hoping to land another running back in the 2024 class, but things aren’t looking good with two elite targets.
Kewan Lacy was a really important commitment for Nebraska football and with the way things are developing in terms of running back recruiting, it looks more important by the day.
At one time, Nebraska football looked like a contender to land Nate Frazier, one of the top-ranked running backs in the entire 2024 class. On3.com ranks him No. 1 overall among backs.
Frazier, who is out of Mater Dei in Southern California, recently released a top-eight list. Nebraska football made the cut but the Huskers don’t feel like a serious contender. We have speculated that an official visit could give the Huskers a chance, but Frazier has been trending with projections to Georgia.
There isn’t a firm decision date yet. Frazier has talked about deciding later in the process but if Georgia is pushing for his pledge, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Frazier commit to the Bulldogs sooner than later.
Other running back recruitments trending away too
Nebraska football fans had hope that the Huskers could pull off a surprise with four-star running back Caden Durham, who is ranked 95th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Durham has an official visit scheduled to see Nebraska football in September. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like that visit will actually happen.
Following the commitment of Taylor Tatum to Oklahoma on Friday, LSU seems to have taken over as the team to beat. The Tigers are expected to host Durham for an unofficial visit next weekend according to 247 Sports.
That’s huge because Durham has set a commitment date for August 25. That doesn’t bode well for Nebraska football since the Huskers won’t have time to get him on campus before then.
Things can always change but right now, I wouldn’t count on Durham being in the 2024 class or taking that official visit in September.
Derrick McFall, a four-star running back out of Texas, was another name on the radar for the Huskers. Yet, the four-star running back ranked 422nd overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings, has been projected to UCLA, so it could be back to the drawing board if Nebraska wants a second running back in 2024.
