Nebraska football has officially added punter Archie Wilson to the 2025 roster after the Australian punter visited the program over the weekend, according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online.
Wilson’s name surfaced recently, and this visit seemed like just a formality. Now, Mike Ekeler, the new Nebraska football special teams coach, has his rugby-style punter.
Wilson is from Haileybury College, which also produced Jackson Ross. Ekeler was so impressed with Ross at Tennessee, he built an entire system around him, which is probably something he’s hoping to do with Nebraska football and Wilson, who can punt using his right and left foot.
The rugby-style punter will be different for Nebraska football. But the Huskers have struggled in the kicking game for years. The return defense was better under Ed Foley, but if Ekeler can produce the way he did with Tennessee, the Huskers will have one of the best kicking games, in all facets, in college football.
Nebraska football is a finalist for 2026 tight end
For the second time in the past week, a top target for Nebraska football has set a commitment date. Luke Sorensen, a three-star tight end from California, has narrowed his teams of teams down to the Huskers, Ole Miss, and Penn State.
Penn State is the crystal ball favorite. Sorensen just visited there this weekend. The three-star tight end is ranked No. 662 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Nebraska doesn’t have an official visit scheduled as of now, but that could change, and there is still time to turn this around.
Darion Jones, one of the top in-state recruits in the 2026 class, also announced a commitment date for July 4th. Sorensen will decide on June 20th.
Nebraska baseball post-mortem
The Huskers’ baseball season ended with a thud, in the form of a 17-1 defeat at the hands of Oklahoma. For the second year in a row, Nebraska baseball won the Big Ten tournament but underachieved.
Will Bolt’s squad struggled in mid-week games, and if the Huskers didn’t win the Big Ten tournament, they would have missed the postseason.
The injury to Mason McConnaughey was a blow. Yet, the preseason first-team All-Big Ten selection should be back next season, along with Ty Horn, who was dominant in wins over UCLA in the Big Ten championship game and Holy Cross in the NCAA tournament.
Tucker Timmerman can be another quality starter. Luke Broderick, a second-team all-conference selection this season as a reliever, is also back. That’s assuming no one transfers.
Gabe Swansen will be among those graduating, but Dylan Carey, who is fifth all-time in the program in doubles, and Devin Nunez, one of the top freshmen in the Big Ten this season, are nice starting points for the offense.
More pitching and some power hitting are needed. It would also be nice to see Nebraska baseball live up to preseason expectations during the season, instead of just having a nice four-game run at the end.
