Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football has made consecutive trips to a bowl game under Matt Rhule. Despite a difficult schedule, CBS Sports is projecting the Huskers to make a return trip.

Getting six wins won’t be a walk in the park. Rhule has said this is his best Nebraska football team; however, the schedule features six Big Ten opponents that won at least nine games last season, with three playoff teams on the docket.

CBS Sports is projecting the Huskers to play Florida State in the Mayo Bowl. That would be a nostalgic matchup for Nebraska fans. It would be the first meeting between the two programs since the 1994 Orange Bowl, when the Seminoles defeated the Huskers 18-16 to win the national championship, as a game-winning field-goal attempt for the Big Red sailed wide on the last play of the game.

It would be the Huskers’ first appearance in the Mayo Bowl, after they lost the Las Vegas Bowl last season but won the Pinstripe Bowl in 2024.

Justin Evans has a chance to make Nebraska football history

The Athletic recently named Justin Evans, the Huskers’ starting center, a second-team preseason All-American. It doesn’t mean much now, but it is a recognition of how far Evans has come.

If Evans can earn All-American honors this season, he would be the first Nebraska football offensive lineman in 25 years to earn that distinction. It’s crazy to think that.

This program has gone through some dark times after the glory days. Hopefully, this is one sign that things are starting to turn around.

Nebraska volleyball has three of the Big Ten’s best players

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Nebraska volleyball players Harper Murray, Andi Jackson, and Bergen Reilly were each named among the top 5 Big Ten players by the Big Ten Network.

Reilly checked in at No. 1. Jackson was No. 2, and Murray was No. 4. That’s a good reason why the Huskers are the heavy favorites to win a fourth straight Big Ten title.

The preseason No. 1 will open the season next Thursday against Florida. There is also a No. 1 vs No. 2 match next Sunday against Texas.

Nebraska’s first volleyball match is in six days. The first football game is in 15 days. We have almost made it.
