Nebraska football hasn’t had a first-round pick since the 2011 NFL draft. That drought probably isn’t going to end this April.

Tommi Hill was projected as a first-round pick earlier in the 2024 season before he was sidelined for most of the season with a foot injury. Hill is taking part in the NFL combine and could salvage his draft stock with a good 40-time this week.

However, his teammate, Nebraska football defensive lineman Ty Robinson has already turned heads this week with his 40-yard dash time on Thursday. Robinson measured 6-foot-5, 288 pounds. He also ran the 40-meter dash in 4.83, which was tops among all defensive tackles.

Nebraska football DL Ty Robinson made himself some money

Robinson was getting chatter as a day-two draft pick already. He played 60 games at Nebraska, and this past season, he started all 13 for the Huskers. He was credited with seven sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 37 stops total this season.

Defensive tackles who ran rush the passer are worth their weight in gold. Robinson also has position versatility. He could play as a five-technique in a 3-4 defense in addition to being a defensive tackle or maybe even a bigger defensive end.

Robinson considered entering the NFL draft after last season. However, he stuck around to help get Nebraska football to a bowl game, then played when many others might have opted out to help the Huskers get their Pinstripe Bowl victory over Boston College.

Robinson is stout against the run, a great culture guy, a pass rusher,  and an elite athlete for a man of his size. At this point, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Robinson is a day-two pick. He could maybe even sneak into the second round of the 2025 NFL draft.

That’s how impactful his performance at the NFL combine might turn out to be.
