Husker Big Red Daily: Nebraska poised for a 5-star flip, volleyball wins ‘Spikes Under the Lights’

Thursday was an exciting day for Husker fans. Not only did the volleyball team capture “Spikes Under The Lights,” but the Nebraska football team feels poised to flip five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson.

Steve Wiltfong, the most respected recruiting analyst in the industry, reported that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the Huskers flipped Hudson, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end ranked No. 18 overall in the 2027 recruiting class.

Hudson took an official visit to Lincoln this summer, despite his commitment to the LSU Tigers. He’s from Ruston, Louisiana. Trae Taylor has built a great rapport with Hudson, who also seems to really connect with the Nebraska football coaching staff.

Hudson has said previously that Nebraska is recruiting him harder than LSU. Reports indicate Hudson will visit Lincoln this fall. That would be another positive for the Huskers. According to Wiltfong, there could be some clarity in the coming weeks.

Nebraska has to get it over the finish line, but it feels like things are trending in that direction.

Nebraska volleyball wins all four sets in Dallas

The Nebraska volleyball team won $350,000 in NIL money on Thursday night by sweeping their way to the first “Spikes Under The Lights” title held at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

Nebraska swept a 17th-ranked Florida squad 2-0. Mania Ogbechie came up big with consecutive kills to take the first set, 21-19. Florida hung tough in the second set, too, but the Huskers won 21-18.

Things weren’t competitive in either set against No. 11 SMU as Nebraska won the title match by the scores of 21-12 and 21-11, holding the Mustangs to a .068 hitting percentage.

Teraya Sigler had seven kills in the title match. Harper Murray pitched in with six kills and five digs. Andi Jackson and Skyler Pierce had three kills each. Bergen Reilly tacked on 21 assists and two blocks.

Sigler had six kills to pace the Huskers against Florida. Jackson managed five kills and three blocks, while Reilly had 19 assists, four digs, and two blocks.

Since both matches were exhibitions, they won’t count on the official record for this season. Nebraska volleyball’s official season opener is Saturday against UNLV (7 PM CST, Fs1). The Huskers will then take on Texas in a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 (Longhorns). That will be Sunday at 2 p.m. on Fox.
