Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football fans have been wondering when Trae Taylor would get his fifth star. After a dominant performance at the Elite 11, it finally happened on Wednesday.

247 Sports upgraded Taylor to a five-star recruit in their 2027 recruiting rankings. The quarterback, who has moved to Omaha to play for Millard South, is the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the No. 1 QB.

Hopefully, Nebraska football can land another five-star — here’s looking at you, Ahmad Hudson — but this was such a massive recruiting win for Matt Rhule. That becomes clearer by the day.

If Rhule turns this program around, Taylor will play a key role in making it happen.

Another blue-chip commitment for Nebraska football

Nehemiah Ombati, the No. 379 recruit in the 2027 class, ranked as a four-star via the 247 Sports composite rankings, committed to Nebraska football on Wednesday, too. That gave the Huskers their 8th blue-chip commitment of the 2027 class, and a third D-line commitment for coach Corey Brown.

The Huskers landed six commitments in six days. They are projected to land another blue-chip in wide receiver Matthew Gregory (97th overall) and four-star cornerback Jailen Hill (No. 334).

There are some key official visitors this weekend, too, such as four-star IOL Kyler Kuhn and three-star IOL Barrett Kitrell. One or both of them could still end up in the 2027 Nebraska recruiting class.

Another award for Jordy Frahm

For just the second time in Nebraska softball history, a Husker player has won the Honda Award for women’s college softball, recognizing the best player in the sport.

That was surely Jordy Frahm, the two-way standout, who won the award. That was in addition to being National Player of the Year. She also became the first player in college softball history to have 20 wins as a starting pitcher and 20 home runs in consecutive seasons.

Frahm will always be remembered for helping Nebraska softball get back to the Women’s College World Series, which came on the heels of the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships.
