The recruiting momentum for Nebraska football is palpable.
After landing back-to-back commitments on Friday, from three-star DL Erroll Demontagnac and four-star cornerback Bryce Williams, the Huskers added a trio of three-star commitments on Sunday morning.
Three-star linebacker Eli Harris, one of the recent additions to the list of official visitors, became the fourth player from Loganville, Georgia, to commit to the program in the past month. He’s listed as 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, and is ranked No. 1,309 in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Pittsburgh and Texas A&M were also expected to get official visits. That was the first of three commitments Sunday, with another coming from Loganville, Georgia in Joey Hunter, a tight end. So Hunter, Harris, Jordan Abganoma, and KD Jones have all committed from Grayson in the past month.
Hunter is 6-foot-5, 255 pounds. Nebraska is pushing for five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, too, but Hunter is a solid blocker and will be more of an in-line, traditional tight end. He’s ranked No. 856 overall in the 2027 class. The other Sunday commitment, at least so far, is a flip, as Minnesota commit Ma’atoe Moe flipped to Nebraska.
Nebraska has 16 commitments. Seven of them are ranked as blue-chip prospects, and the Huskers have the No. 18 class overall. Here are three takeaways from a massively productive weekend that’s far from over.
The Huskers are on fire
Landing five commitments in three days is solid work. Some Nebraska football fans have scoffed at the three-star commitments, but Bryce Williams was a big-time get. Oklahoma and Florida pursued the four-star, just like Texas A&M was after Harris.
PJ Fleck has beaten Nebraska plenty of times on the field, so it was smart to steal away an EDGE who was committed to the Golden Gophers just last week.
Nebraska has landed elite players at premium positions. The offensive line haul is impressive (2 4-stars). The Huskers have top-100 players committed at QB and DB, with a WR expected to join the fold soon. There are three blue-chip defensive backs already, with another commitment expected this week from four-star DB Jailen Hill.
It’s fair to question Matt Rhule’s record, but this 2027 recruiting class is coming together quite well. Give him some credit.
Doing work in SEC country
Outside of flipping a Minnesota EDGE commitment from Utah, every other recent commitment has come from SEC country. Eight of the last nine commitments have come from Florida or Georgia. Nebraska football added commitments from Florida on Friday and Saturday, plus two more from Georgia.
That’s in addition to four-star IOL Jordan Agbanoma, four-star OT Timi Aliu, and four-star DB Corey Hadley, plus three-star KD Jones, Nebraska’s future center, all from Georgia.
Nebraska might have just two players committed in the 2027 class from Nebraska, but they are the right two. There could be a third in Barrett Kitrell, but the way the Huskers have expanded their recruiting footprint, thanks to Geep Wade and Addison Williams, has been impressive.
Not done yet
This recruiting heater is far from finished. Hill, the four-star cornerback, is announcing a decision on Tuesday (June 9th). Top-100 wide receiver Matthew Gregory has been projected to Nebraska. He also just canceled his visit to LSU, and doesn’t have any others on the schedule.
I’d expect a commitment from before long. That would push Nebraska football to nine blue-chip commitments out of 18, although Nehemiah Ombati, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive lineman, has also been trending to the Huskers.
In addition to those three commitments, five-star recruits Albert Simien and Hudson were on campus. Hudson told Rivals Nebraska was “close” to flipping him from LSU, so there could be some major fireworks on the horizon.
If the Huskers can flip Hudson, they are looking at a class with six top-100 commitments and 10 blue-chip prospects total. Some of the others are ranked a little lower, but the NIL resources are finite. So you have to hit on some evaluations, too.
However, Nebraska fans should be pumped about this class, and over-the-moon excited if Matt Rhule and Trae Taylor find a way to get Hudson to be N.
Either way, this is exactly the kind of class Nebraska needs to sign to compete in the Big Ten.
