Welcome to the Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska softball is one of eight teams still alive for a national championship by reaching the Women’s College World Series, and nobody played a bigger role in that than Jordy Frahm.

Frahm, a first-team All-American and the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, was named the National Player of the Year in college softball by USA Softball on Tuesday, a fitting award for the best player in the sport.

Frahm led the Huskers with a .416 batting average. She also leads the Nebraska softball team in home runs (19), is tied for second in RBI (50), leads the team in total bases, extra-base hits (34), slugging percentage (.827), on-base percentage (.511) and runs scored (59). Frahm is also second on the team in walks drawn.

And that’s just on offense. She’s the best pitcher in the sport, with a 20-4 record. The Nebraska softball ace boasted a 1.14 ERA. She struck out 234 batters this season (1.36 per inning) and led the nation in saves (12).

There isn’t another player in college softball like Jordy Frahm. Nebraska fans know that, and it’s the No. 1 reason the Huskers have a legitimate chance of winning the national championship.

Latest Nebraska football recruiting buzz

Nebraska football picked up another four-star commitment on Monday, as Timi Aliu, the offensive tackle out of Georgia, committed to the Huskers.

That was the 11th commitment overall and the fourth among offensive linemen. It makes you wonder if Nebraska football will take a fifth. Albert Simien, Kyler Kuhn, and Barrett Kitrell are all scheduled to take official visits.

Nebraska is battling Iowa for Kitrell. Both teams have official visits in June, but it seems like Iowa has the upper hand. My sense is that the Huskers will push hard for Simien and Kuhn. I don’t see them landing either, or Kitrell.

That leaves a four-man class for Geep Wade.

Nebraska is also trending up with three-star safety Brennan Drummond. He announced on social media that he will be taking an official visit on June 12th. He doesn’t have an offer yet, but that’s surely going to change.

A 6-foot safety out of Providence Day, in Charlotte, Drummond has offers from Florida, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Arkansas. Georgia and Nebraska are each scheduled to get official visits. Georgia Tech is also lurking.

Drummond is ranked No. 905 overall, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
