Nebraska football insider offers hope after 5-star TE chooses LSU

Nebraska football could still have hope with five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, even though he committed to LSU on Sunday.

Nebraska football missed out on the biggest recruiting target left on its board in the 2027 class on Sunday, as five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson committed to LSU, the in-state program.

On the whole, this isn’t a surprise. Nebraska football has been described as the leader quite a few times. However, Hudson never visited this spring, and there were never any expert projections in favor of Nebraska.

Trae Taylor had Nebraska in the mix with the 6-foot-5, 239-pound tight end, who is ranked No. 1 at his position in the 2027 class. Hudson is also a basketball standout. He had offers to play football and basketball for LSU and Nebraska.

Proximity and the Lane Kiffin factor are likely what won out. The Tigers surely had more NIL to offer, although you never know.

Hudson narrowed his recruitment recently. He was expected to decide after taking official visits. He never made it to Lincoln, though.

Could Nebraska football still have a chance to land 5-star Ahmad Hudson?

However, Tim Verghese, a Nebraska football recruiting insider for Rivals, suggested that this recruitment could still have some twists and turns before it’s all said and done.

“Behind the scenes story on this recruitment is a doozy, and there could still be some potential twists and turns ahead,” The Nebraska insider posted on X.

I wouldn’t expect Nebraska to stop recruiting Hudson. There’s still more than six months to go before signing day. Yet, it seems like it’s hard for Husker fans to have real hope. Flipping an in-state commitment, a five-star no less, from LSU is a monumental task.

Maybe if there was a breakthrough on the field, but with the 2026 schedule Nebraska faces, that seems as likely as Hudson actually signing with the Huskers in the 2027 class.
