The first commitment for Nebraska football after the clinching of a bowl berth winds up in the 2026 class thanks to the commitment of defensive back CJ Bronaugh.
Bronaugh is out of Winter Garden, Florida. He’s not ranked according to 247 Sports or the 247 Sports composite rankings right now but the offer sheet has been growing and will only continue to grow after a solid junior season.
Just watch the highlight tape. The kid is all over the place making plays on the ball. He looks fast and he is actually running the 100-meter dash in 10.33 seconds according to Husker Online, which is just blazing fast. He runs the 40 in 4.3 and is ranked as a three-star prospect (55th among cornerbacks) according to On3’s 2026 rankings.
No wonder Matt Rhule and Nebraska football are all over this kid. He visited for the UCLA game and wound up committing soon after. Oklahoma, Tennessee, Penn State, UCF, Florida State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Baylor, Minnesota, and others were on the other sheet when he committed.
Here are three thoughts.
3 thoughts on the commitment of CJ Bronaugh to Nebraska football
- This is a really smart take. Bronaugh had a strong junior season. It looks like he intercepted at least five passes in his highlight video and that’s being conservative. He also took many of those interceptions to the house and also played some at wide receiver. He even blocks a kick.
- It’s clear that cornerback is his best position. You can’t coach 4.3 speed and in some ways, he sort of reminds you of Tommie Hill. Bronaugh can play wide receiver and he’s actually pretty good at finding the ball in the air. You see him play some slot and safety during his tape. He’s comfortable playing in the box and tackling which is important in the 3-3-5 defense. There are a few instances of him being used as a blitzer which could be another asset due to his speed.
- Some fans might worry about the rankings but at this point, trust the evaluations. A 6-foot-1 cornerback who can run 10.33 in the 100-meter dash is a good player to bet on. The reward is high, especially when he has good ball skills. Bronaugh meets all of those criteria. It makes you wonder why he’s not ranked higher. Remember, Jeremiah Jones wasn’t ranked that high until after his commitment, and we could see something similar happen with Bronaugh.
