For the second time this week, Nebraska football landed the commitment of an offensive lineman as three-star interior offensive lineman Houston Kaahaaina-Torres committed to the Huskers.

Kaahaaina-Torres has been trending with expert projections to Huskers following his official visit this month. Kaahaaina-Torres is ranked No. 671 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s ranked five spots ahead of Brian Tapu and is the No. 1 recruit in the state of Hawaii.

It’s the 13th commitment total in the 2025 class for Nebraska football and here are three thoughts.

The Huskers see Kaahaaina-Torres as a center

At 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, Nebraska football has been recruiting Kaahaaina-Torres as a center. He has also played right tackle and it’s good to have that versatility but he could be the long-term starter in the future.

Utah, Michigan State, Arizona, and Arizona State all offered, but for the second cycle in a row, Nebraska was able to land the best offensive line prospect from the state of Hawaii.

That could create a nice little pipeline down the road. Three-star commitments aren’t going to wow anyone but Nebraska football O-line recruiting looks a lot better this week than it did when Tapu had committed to Oregon State.

Centers are valuable, especially players who have played that position in high school. It tends to be undervalued but it’s probably the second most important O-line position on the offensive line.

Could make an early impact

Kaahaaina-Torres might not have the length of an offensive tackle at just 6-foot-3, but he moves like one. That’s one reason why he has played all over the offensive line.

His scouting report from Greg Biggins of 247 Sports says that Kaahaaina-Torres could play guard, tackle, or center. Biggins also wrote that the new Nebraska football commitment “manhandles” people in the run game.

Kaahaaina-Torres feels like the perfect kind of Matt Rhule commitment. He’s physical and could play right away but is still under-ranked. Part of that is being in Hawaii. He feels like a high-ceiling, low-floor commitment and that’s something for Nebraska fans to feel good about.

Nebraska football lacks blue-chip talent in 2025

Nebraska has a solid recruiting class. Matt Rhule said that he recruits NFL players and I believe that’s true, but it feels like the Huskers are still having to take more projects.

I don’t know if I’d call Kaahaaina-Torres a project. It feels like he can be a depth piece early in his career. There’s a chance that he’s a multi-year starter down the road.

But the fact that Nebraska has just three recruits ranked in the top 600 of the 2025 class is a little concerning. That’s the lay of the land for Nebraska right now. Maybe winning more will solve that issue but for now, the Huskers are betting a lot on their ability to develop three-stars.
