3 thoughts on Christian Jones commitment to Nebraska

Nebraska football made an impression on recruits with the win over Colorado and it was also enough to get the commitment of Christian Jones.

If Christian Jones was looking for a reason to commit to Nebraska football, he got it on Saturday night.

It’s hard to know if that win over Colorado is what put the Huskers over the top. More like the combination of the 2-0 start and the idea of being a Blackshirt — after one of the best performances by the Blackshirts in years.

But regardless, Jones, the top-ranked recruit in the state of Nebraska in the 2025 class, and the No. 161 prospect in the 2025 class overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings committed to the Huskers on Monday night, releasing a commitment video on social media.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker out of Omaha is the seventh blue-chip commitment in the 2025 class for Nebraska football, which now has the No. 26 class according to 247 Sports. Here are three thoughts on the commitment of Jones.

Nebraska football gave Jones a reason against Colorado

I’ve been saying that Nebraska just needed to give Jones a reason to commit. Despite interest in Auburn, Oklahoma, and USC, it felt like Nebraska was where Jones wanted to be all along.

But like most recruits, he wanted to go somewhere that could win and where he could be developed for the next level.

Well, after watching the first two games of the season, Nebraska answered those questions. The Huskers are getting talked about as a playoff contender already. That checks one box.

Also, imagine Jones in the 3-3-5 defense. He’s an outside linebacker/EDGE who should be a weapon for whoever is calling the defense in 2025 and beyond.

When Jones scheduled visits to the first two games of the season, it felt like the Huskers had the lead. Saturday probably just closed things out.

Nebraska football is trending in the right direction again and why wouldn’t you want to play for that Nebraska defense?

Another big in-state recruiting win for Matt Rhule

The Huskers missed on Chase Loftin earlier in the 2025 recruiting class, but outside of that, in-state players have been flocking to Matt Rhule’s Nebraska football program.

Jones, who is the top-ranked in-state recruit in 2025, joins Carter Nelson and Malachi Coleman as the third straight No. 1 recruit in the state to choose Nebraska.

Rhule is a huge part of that. He doesn’t try to oversell Nebraska. He doesn’t have to. Rhule just needs to win, because if we have more games like Saturday night, the recruiting wins will start coming even more regularly.

A perfect fit in more ways than one

I love this commitment for a few reasons. For one, Jones is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, and he runs very well with a 10.89 time in the 100-meter dash, as well as a 50-foot mark in the shot put.

That’s rare, but Jones is that kind of athlete. Rhule and the Huskers love athletes like that. Jones is also an ideal fit for the 3-3-5 defense. He’s probably best suited to play the Will but he could be a Jack too. He’s solid in coverage and in 2023, he had 55 tackles, 9 TFL, 1 INT, 1 FF, and 1 FR in 13 games. Jones also caught 20 passes for 500 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jones isn’t quite Carter Nelson but he’s got a future in the NFL. He also has the look of a multi-year starter and in the 2025 class, it might be Nebraska’s biggest commitment yet.
