There aren’t a ton of targets left for Nebraska football on the recruiting board for the 2025 class but one name that’s still available is three-star linebacker Will Hawthorne.
Hawthorne is out of Gilbert, Iowa. He’s 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, and ranked No. 903 overall according to the On3 Industry rankings. For weeks, it has been down to Nebraska football and Iowa State. Those on the side of the Cornhuskers had optimism.
However, Nebraska insiders lost that optimism recently. Sean Callahan and Bryan Munson of Husker Online each projected Hawthorne to Iowa State recently. On Monday night, Hawthorne announced he will decide on August 8th between Nebraska and Iowa State.
It feels like the Cyclones will win out there. But the Nebraska Cornhuskers have pulled off surprises before. They have also been surprised by other schools in the end, so you never say never in recruiting. But it feels like Christian Jones will become the focus at linebacker — not that he wasn’t already.
But now that Hawthorne is likely off the board, or will be in a few days, the top in-state recruit in the state of Nebraska is a must-get.
Nebraska football receives votes in Coaches Poll
The 2024 Preseason Coaches Poll came out on Monday and Nebraska football received two votes — the same as Colorado. Six Big Ten teams are ranked with Ohio State (No. 2), Oregon (No. 3), Michigan (No. 8), Penn State (No. 9), USC (No. 24) and Iowa (No. 25).
I honestly expected Iowa to be ranked a little higher. Washington was just outside the top 25, while Nebraska football and Wisconsin received votes. So Nebraska will play five teams at least receiving votes.
ESPN releasing documentary on Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball
The Nebraska volleyball team hit the court for practice this week and the 2024 season is right around the corner. 2023 was epic for Nebraska and the Cornhuskers finished as the national runner-up without a single senior.
ESPN followed Nebraska volleyball during its 2023 season and while the Cornhuskers fell just short of the national championship, you can follow their journey by watching “No Place Like Nebraska” which will premiere on ESPN on August 25th at 3 PM EST.
The trailer looks epic.
