Offering up some thoughts on the decommitment of CJ Simon from Nebraska football in the 2025 recruiting class.

It’s National Signing Day for the 2024 class and Nebraska football should receive good news from a pair of 2024 targets on Wednesday.

Three-star EDGE Keona Wilhite and three-star safety Kahmir Prescott have been trending with expert projections, predicting that they will end up signing with Nebraska football.

Prescott is supposed to announce on Wednesday. Wilhite has said he would announce his decision on or near Signing Day, but I expect to hear good news from both by the end of the day.

A 2025 decommitment

The Huskers did suffer a decommitment on Tuesday night as three-star wideout CJ Simon re-opened his recruitment. You never want to have a decommitment, but this one sort of makes sense, especially considering some of the wide receivers Nebraska football has been targeting.

Simon is out of Moore, Oklahoma. He’s ranked 690th according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and the On3 industry rankings.

Nebraska football has some talented targets on the wide receiver board and looking down the road, you could foresee a scenario where Simon wouldn’t really fit in.

At some point, there is a limitation on numbers, whether dudes are preferred walk-ons or not. I don’t think that was the case with Simon, but Nebraska can only take so many wideouts in this class and it feels like Simon may have been part of a numbers crunch so it’s probably smart for both sides to go separate ways.
