If Nebraska volleyball can bottle up how it played Saturday night against USC, the Huskers shouldn’t have any problems for the rest of the year.

For now, Nebraska improved to 21-0 after a 3-0 win over the Trojans, 25-12, 25-16, 25-13. The Huskers hit .400 as a team, while USC hit just .095. Harper Murray had 14 kills. Andi Jackson added eight kills and four blocks. Bergen Reilly added 38 assists and eight digs.

Looking back at the win, here are three takeaways.

Nebraska volleyball beats USC: Three takeaways

Harper is hitting her stride

It’s hilarious that Murray was viewed as being in a slump earlier this season. She had 14 kills and eight digs Saturday and hit .471. It was nearly a perfect performance. It’s hard to find anything to complain about. She just needs to keep this form up for the rest of the season because she was at an All-American level.

Defense on point

It feels like this is a takeaway that can be copied and pasted. This was one of the Huskers’ best performances on that end, though. USC hit just .095.

The block is part of the reason for that. So are the littles. Nebraska is just hard to kill the ball against. USC scored only 41 points, the second-fewest allowed by the Huskers this season, and a reminder of just how good this Nebraska team is.

USC shouldn’t feel bad, though. The Huskers do this to just about everybody, which is why they have the No. 1 hitting-percentage defense in college volleyball.

Wire-to-wire

The Huskers not only showed the killer instinct to close out the match in the first set, but they also didn’t trail at all in the first. There was a 3-2 deficit in the second set before a 6-1 run. Early in the third, Nebraska volleyball went on a 12-2 run to close things out.

The Trojans have struggled this season. They are under .500, and Nebraska volleyball did exactly what you would expect it to do against a team of that caliber, which is exactly why Husker fans should have a good feeling coming out of this match and another strong week for the Big Red.
